A Massachusetts man was arrested for stealing a couple’s Jeep at a Kenny Chesney concert and smashing it into a car carrying a family of six, killing a 10-year-old boy, according to authorities.
Michael Escolas, 42, of Oxford, Massachusetts, was charged with motor vehicle manslaughter, operating under the influence, larceny of a motor vehicle, and other connected offenses, according to a news release issued Sunday by the Wrentham District Court.
Escolas is suspected of stealing a Jeep Cherokee from a Vermont couple who had parked outside Gillette Stadium on Sunday evening to see Chesney perform, according to the district attorney’s office. Once taken, the Jeep was driven south, colliding with a family of six’s Nissan Altima around 8:30 p.m. According to the announcement, the Jeep collided with the Nissan as it was stopped at a traffic light near an intersection.
According to authorities, three other automobiles collided at the crossroads after the incident.
USA TODAY contacted Escolas’ defense counsel Monday afternoon but has yet to get a response.

Escolas and all six family members in the Nissan were sent to area hospitals, according to the DA’s office. The family’s 10-year-old son died in the crash, according to prosecutors. Three additional children were rushed to the hospital with injuries, but their situations are unclear, according to a Plainville Fire Department news release.
According to the DA’s office, no one from the other three vehicles involved in the crash required emergency transport.
“Dealing with this chaotic scene and evacuating seven people to area hospitals necessitated the assistance and cooperation of numerous partner agencies,” District Attorney Michael Morrissey stated in the announcement. Plainville Police and Massachusetts State Police were helped by Fire and Ambulance assets from Plainville, North Attleboro, Wrentham, Foxboro, Mansfield, and Franklin, as well as staff from the Wrentham Police Department. I thank everyone who answered, and my heartfelt sympathies to the family who lost their son.”
Escolas is still in detention and is being held on $100,000 cash bail, according to the district attorney’s office.
