Race Day Live (Fond du Lac County, WI) – A 31-year-old Cecil man was arrested following a dramatic 13-mile chase on Interstate 41 in Fond du Lac County on Thursday morning.
The incident began just before 10:15 a.m. when a sheriff’s deputy, patrolling southbound on I-41 near Highway N in the town of Eldorado, spotted a vehicle speeding on the gravel shoulder. The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the driver ignored the signals and sped off, authorities said.
The suspect’s vehicle weaved across both lanes of the interstate, endangering other motorists. The chase prompted additional response from another sheriff’s deputy and a state trooper, who deployed tire deflation devices near Lost Arrow Road in an effort to stop the fleeing vehicle.
As the vehicle neared the Highway B exit, the driver lost control and veered into a ditch. The damage left the car undrivable, prompting the man to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot.
Law enforcement officers quickly apprehended the suspect after a brief foot chase. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation following the incident.
No major injuries were reported, but the chase caused minor property damage. A sheriff’s patrol car sustained damage from tire debris, and a passing motorist’s vehicle was struck by gravel kicked up by the fleeing car.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has recommended multiple charges against the driver, including felony fleeing/eluding and first-degree recklessly endangering safety. His identity has not yet been released pending formal charges.
The incident highlights the risks posed by reckless driving, especially on high-speed roadways. Law enforcement commended their coordinated efforts, which helped prevent a potentially more serious outcome.
Officials urge anyone who witnesses unsafe driving or suspicious activity to report it promptly to authorities to ensure the safety of all road users.
Further updates on the case will be provided as the investigation continues.
