Coeur d’Alene Silver Cup, Inc., is requesting approval of an Annual Special Events Location Permit to host the 2016 Coeur d’Alene Silver Cup Unlimited Hydroplane Race and Grand Prix West race. As proposed the event is scheduled to take place on July 15, 16 and 17, 2016, and will be located east of the city of Coeur d’Alene, along a 1.5 mile section of shoreline of Coeur d’Alene Lake near Silver Beach. The location and spectator viewing areas will be located along E Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive and the Centennial Trail and the hydroplane boat races will be held on Coeur d’Alene Lake. Spectators will be transported/shuttled by bus from an offsite parking area totaling approximately 32 acres located on the north side of Seltice Way and west of Huetter Road near Huetter.

The Coeur d’Alene Silver Cup group has applied for a permit to hold the races on Lake Coeur d’Alene, east of the city, July 15–17. 158 of 230 respondents (68.7%) don’t want to see the races held this summer. 59 of 230 respondents (25.65%) want to see the races staged again. 13 (5.65%) were undecided.

“No… never. These kinds of events not only close off large areas of public land and water but the noise they create intrudes on the peace for people far away from the event. The impacts are huge.
The topper is that this particular event has such a abysmal track record of broken promises. There also seems to be a substantial lack of public interest in hydo-plane races.”
