HRL 2020 season cancellation
Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, April 11, 2020 – On April 2, the League of Hydroplane Regattas (HRL), presented by Reliable Diamond Tool, announced that its first event of the season in Cambridge, Maryland was postponed. Considering the evolution of the situation and the impact of COVID-19 on the population, the HRL made the painful decision to cancel all the events of its 2020 calendar.
“We prioritize the health and safety of racing teams, our partners, spectators, as well as our volunteers and employees. In addition, the financial and planning challenges that organizations must face are enormous, especially without the holding of the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield event, which is the financial pivot of the League. We want to avoid compromising the financial survival of our different sites, ”said HRL commissioner Didier-Bernard Séguin.
As for the Beauharnois Regattas, which were to be held in September, the event is also canceled, since the current situation does not allow predicting a return to certain normalcy.
“Although we feel a lot of disappointment, we are coping with unfortunate circumstances and we support the measures put in place by the government. We are convinced that all amateurs understand the situation and will be happy to see the best hydroplane pilots back in 2021 on the HRL circuit, ”added Mr. Séguin.
The HRL has a special thought for drivers and racing teams, who put body and soul into the sport each season. This situation saddens amateurs and pilots, but let’s bet for the moment on the health of all and a comeback in 2021.
