A University of Michigan student is healing after being struck by a car on campus Wednesday morning.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, the incident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. on University Avenue near Thayer Street, near the Thayer Academic Building.

Ann Arbor and University of Michigan police officers, as well as Ann Arbor fire and EMS teams, went to the site, where a 24-year-old pedestrian was struck at a mid-block crosswalk.

The motorist, a 72-year-old Ypsilanti lady, was traveling west on N. University at the time of the collision.

The student, whose name has not been revealed, was unconscious when first responders arrived and was transported to the hospital, where he was reported in serious but stable condition.

The driver remained at the site and cooperated with investigators.

Authorities stated that speeding or irresponsible driving did not appear to be a role. Investigators are currently investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the tragedy.
