3-Year-Old Missing in Maine Found Dead Outside Family Home: Authorities

Race Day Live (Penobscot County, ME) – A tragic incident occurred last weekend in Maine, where a 3-year-old boy was discovered deceased in the snow shortly after being reported missing.

Authorities in Maine are looking into the tragic death of a young child discovered on Exeter Road in Corinna on Sunday, Jan. 12, according to police reports.

A relative, who recognized the child as her nephew, contacted emergency services around 8:30 a.m. local time to report the boy missing. Later, his father discovered him “outside in the snow,” some distance from their residence, according to police reports.

Emergency services responded to the location, but the child, whose name remains undisclosed, sadly succumbed to his injuries, which seemed to align with “exposure to the elements,” according to the Maine State Police.

The investigation into the boy’s death continues under the scrutiny of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will establish the cause and manner of death after conducting an autopsy.

The investigation received support from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Health and Human Services, according to state police.

Officials have indicated that they consider the toddler’s death to be a singular event. A representative from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services conveyed to NBC affiliate WCSH that “the loss of a child is heartbreaking and sorrowful,” and extended their sympathies to “the family and all those affected.”

After the tragic passing of the child, CBS affiliate WABI referenced a social media update, allegedly from the child’s mother, who mentioned waking up on Jan. 12 to discover her child was gone.

The report indicates that the woman stated the door of the home had been forcibly opened by another family member in the past and was secured with a bolt thereafter.

It has been reported that she mentioned the child’s father is now in the hospital due to the overwhelming grief, stating that “this loss in our home has destroyed him to [the] point he wants to take his own life,” according to WABI.
