Sometimes, failing once doesn’t mean it’s over — but for chain restaurants, a comeback isn’t always easy. When a restaurant chain closes down in a city or state, it’s rare to see them try again. However, it does happen occasionally.
Sometimes a restaurant fails simply because the timing or location isn’t right. Maybe locals weren’t familiar enough with the brand, or the market just wasn’t ready.
But with changing trends and growing demand, some chains might have a better shot at success the second time around.
Here are four restaurant chains that should consider giving Maine another try.
The Ground Round is Making a Real Comeback
It’s true — one of the biggest chain restaurant failures is trying again. The Ground Round has recently opened a new location in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and if it does well, more could follow.
At one time, Ground Round had several locations across Maine, including one that stuck around for quite a while before closing.
The chain was once popular in the state, so it’s not impossible to imagine it making a successful return.
Outback Steakhouse Could Try Again in Maine

You’ve probably seen Outback Steakhouse commercials on TV or online, even though the chain hasn’t had a Maine location since 2012.
More than a decade later, Outback remains a strong national brand. While it didn’t work out the first time in Maine, things might be different if the chain decides to make a comeback.
Cinnabon is Expanding Again
Cinnabon, known for its sweet, gooey cinnamon rolls, seemed like it was headed for failure over a decade ago. But instead, the chain found its footing and continues to grow.
Interestingly, Maine is one of the few states without a single Cinnabon location. It didn’t work out at the Maine Mall before, but with the brand’s growing popularity, a new location there might finally succeed.
Baskin Robbins Could Find Success in Maine

If you’ve traveled outside of New England, you’ve likely seen plenty of Baskin Robbins locations — there are nearly 8,000 nationwide. Many of them are paired with Dunkin’, which is a New England staple.
Baskin Robbins has tried a couple of standalone locations in Maine, but they didn’t last. However, in areas without year-round ice cream stands, a combined Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins could be a winning combo.
