Early on Labor Day, Sept. 2, four persons were shot and killed on a Chicago commuter train. An unidentified suspect was taken under custody.
According to a police press statement posted on the official Village of Forest Park Facebook page, the incident happened at the Blueline Station of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) at 711 Desplaines Ave. in Forest Park, Ill., a suburb of Chicago.
Just before 5:30 a.m., police were summoned and upon arrival discovered four victims—three of which were declared dead at the site. The announcement said that a fourth was transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and subsequently declared deceased.
The gunman had vanished when cops showed up. Later on, after police examined CTA Security tape, a suspect who fit the description was taken aboard another CTA train. The guy was apprehended after a gun turned up was recovered.
The news release goes on, “This appears to be an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the community.”
Authorities have not named either the victim or the suspect.
“Although this was an isolated incident, this terrible and egregious act of violence should never have happened, nonetheless on a public transit train,” the CTA said in a statement taken by Peoples. “As soon as this incident was reported, CTA sent resources to help the Forest Park Police investigate the matter, including analysis of all possible security camera material, which proved to be essential in supporting local enforcement.
“We appreciate the Chicago Police Department’s rapid actions resulting in the apprehension of a suspect in this regard as well as the Forest Park Police Department for their meticulous and cooperative efforts to provide information to partner agencies,” the statement went on. “CTA will keep working with local law enforcement as part of this continuous investigation.”
