Race Day Live (Amelia County, VA) — A tragic two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on Patrick Henry Highway left one person dead and another injured, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the 11000 block of Patrick Henry Highway.
Authorities reported that Paul J. Semtner, 78, of Blackstone, was driving eastbound in a 2018 Honda CR-V when a tractor-trailer entered his lane and struck his vehicle. Semtner’s wife, 77-year-old Marilyn A. Semtner, was seated in the front passenger seat.
Despite wearing seat belts, Marilyn Semtner succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Paul Semtner sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 27-year-old male from Chesterfield, was uninjured. Virginia State Police indicated that charges are pending against him.
“The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing,” said officials in an email statement.
Virginia State Police continue to remind drivers to exercise caution and remain vigilant on the roads, particularly in areas with heavy commercial traffic.
