Indianapolis, IN – In central Indiana, the first big cold blast of the season will hit late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. High winds and wind chills below zero are expected to make conditions dangerous for both locals and commuters.
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis says that as an arctic front comes in, temperatures will drop quickly and wind chills will drop below zero. With the cold air will come snow showers that will only cover an inch or so. Untreated roads, especially along I-70, could freeze over quickly, making driving dangerous.
The windiest parts of the night will be between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. when gusts will reach 45 mph. These gusts could blow snow around, making it harder for cars to see. People are being asked to put up outdoor decorations and be careful when they’re moving, especially early in the morning.
On Thursday, the weather will stay cold, with wind chills below zero until mid-morning. The highest temperature will only get up to the upper 20s, and by evening, the winds will be slowly dying down.
