This recipe for French dip sandwiches is very easy to make and my family loves it. These things are what you will need:
How to make it:
- 4 bread rolls
- 1 onion, cut into thin slices
- 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of thinly sliced sirloin steak
- 3 minced garlic cloves
- 1/2 cup of pepperoncini that are mild
- 1 box of spice mix for au jus
- 4 pieces of provolone or Swiss cheese
- 2 cups of beef broth
- 1 teaspoon of spice for steak
- Add pepper and salt to taste.
- 2 large sticks of butter
Warm a medium-sized pot over medium heat. Add the onion slices and 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook the onion for 5 to 7 minutes, or until soft.
Cut up the garlic and add it. Cook for one more minute.
Season the sliced steak with steak spice, salt, and pepper. Then, add it to the pot and cook for another 5 minutes.
Put in the pepperoncini peppers and about two tablespoons of the pepper sauce in the jar. Use medium to hot peppers if you like spicy food. After adding the au jus, stir it in to get rid of any lumps.
Make sure the steak is covered with soup and let it cook on low heat for 20 minutes, or until you’re ready to serve. At the end, add the tablespoon of butter. Tip: You can use an Instant Pot or a slow cooker to cook this too. Have fun!
Note: If you don’t like onions, you can leave them out. But if you cook them down and wilt them, they become very sweet. You can use any meat that is thinly sliced.
This tastes great on a sandwich roll with a salad or chips or fries on the side. They taste great on top of mashed potatoes too.
