A notice that Walmart filed with the state of Alabama says that employees may lose their jobs because of the closure of a Walmart store just days before Christmas.
The Walmart Neighborhood Market at 4226 Northwest Oakwood Avenue in Huntsville will close on December 20.
According to the Alabama Department of Commerce, the company said in a WARN warning that 80 people would be laid off last week. Federal law says that big businesses have to give the state public warnings before they lay off a lot of workers or close down a plant.
Walmart did not answer when asked for a word on the planned layoffs.
Lindsey Coulter, who used to be the communications head for Walmart, said that all employees in the store would be able to be transferred. The boss also told them they would be paid until March 7, 2025.
“This decision was not taken lightly and was made only after a deep and careful review process,” Coulter wrote in a new statement.
