As the New Year approaches, Social Security beneficiaries must understand when their payments will be made. The Social Security Administration (SSA) administers five key programs: retirement, family, survivor, disability, and supplemental security income (SSI). These payments are vital to recipients, so the SSA publishes an annual calendar to help beneficiaries plan.
Triple Social Security Payments
Recipients should note that there will be months when they receive three Social Security payments due to schedule adjustments around weekends and holidays. However, this does not mean extra payments are issued; only the timing of certain payments is shifted.
SSI Payment Schedule for 2025
SSI payments are typically made on the first of each month. When the first falls on a weekend or National Holiday, the payment is shifted to the last business day of the previous month. This can result in two payments in one month but none in the following month. The SSI schedule for 2025 is as follows:
- December 31, 2024: January 2025 payment
- January 31, 2025: February 2025 payment
- February 28, 2025: March 2025 payment
- April 1, 2025: April 2025 payment
- May 1, 2025: May 2025 payment
- May 30, 2025: June 2025 payment
- July 1, 2025: July 2025 payment
- August 1, 2025: August 2025 payment
- August 30, 2025: September 2025 payment
- October 1, 2025: October 2025 payment
- October 31, 2025: November 2025 payment
- December 1, 2025: December 2025 payment
- December 31, 2025: January 2026 payment
Retirement, Family, Survivor, and Disability Payments
For recipients of retirement, family, survivor, and disability benefits, payment schedules are determined by the start date of benefits and the beneficiary’s birthdate.
- Before May 1997: Payments are made on the 3rd of each month, except:
- Friday, May 2
- Friday, August 1
- After May 1997: Payment dates are birthdate-dependent:
- 1st-10th of the month: Second Wednesday of the month
- 11th-20th of the month: Third Wednesday of the month
- 21st-31st of the month: Fourth Wednesday of the month
Payments are moved to the previous business day if the scheduled payment date falls on a National Holiday.
