More workers in North Carolina have lost their jobs in recent weeks.
Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, employers are required to provide 60 days’ notice to employees and local government officials before closing a plant or conducting mass layoffs.
This federal law aims to give workers time to find new jobs or retraining opportunities. In the past few days, the North Carolina Department of Commerce has received the following WARN notices:
- UPS will lay off 99 employees in Charlotte on May 2.
- TIMKEN will close a store in Hiddenite on December 31, resulting in 58 job losses.
