In another significant victory for the New York State Police (NYSP), details have emerged about a recent operation on the Taconic State Parkway that resulted in a major drug bust. The incident took place last Thursday, January 11, 2024, when troopers from the Poughkeepsie barracks conducted a routine traffic stop in the town of East Fishkill.
According to the official statement from the NYSP, the 2020 Toyota sedan was pulled over for a “violation of the vehicle and traffic law.” The driver, identified as Brandon M. Green, a 31-year-old resident of Pittsfield, MA, drew the attention of troopers during the stop. Subsequent investigations revealed that Green was operating the vehicle under the influence of drugs, leading to his immediate arrest.
However, the real shock came when troopers continued their examination of the scene. Uncovering a significant find, they discovered that Green was in possession of approximately half a kilogram of cocaine. The subsequent charges filed against Green include Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st degree, a class A-I felony, and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, listed as an unclassified misdemeanor.
This incident marks another successful interception by NYSP on the Taconic State Parkway, as earlier this month, another individual was arrested for illegal marijuana possession following a traffic stop.

The charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 1st degree is one of the most severe offenses in the New York State Penal Code. If convicted, Green faces the prospect of spending the remainder of his life behind bars, coupled with a potential $100,000 fine.
Following his arrest, Green was promptly taken into custody and subsequently arraigned in the court of the Honorable Judge Romig of the town of East Fishkill Court. The judge remanded Green to the Dutchess County Jail without bail, emphasizing the severity of the charges against him.
This latest success by the NYSP underscores the crucial role law enforcement plays in curbing the flow of illegal substances on major highways. The Taconic State Parkway, known for its picturesque views, has unfortunately become a route for criminal activities, prompting heightened vigilance from the state police.
NYSP’s commitment to maintaining safety on the Taconic is evident in their consistent efforts to identify and apprehend individuals engaged in illicit activities. The recent string of arrests sends a clear message that illegal drug transportation will not be tolerated and those involved will face severe consequences.
The NYSP encourages citizens to report any suspicious activities on the Taconic State Parkway, further emphasizing the collaborative effort needed to keep the roads safe. As the legal proceedings against Brandon M. Green unfold, it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and impaired driving, both of which pose significant threats to public safety.
