Five people were slain, including a 12-year-old kid, and three were injured as gun violence swept through Sacramento in 26 hours.

The shootings occurred in the city’s north, south, east, and central areas, bringing the year’s homicide total to 34.

The most recent deaths occurred early Sunday, with two individuals murdered and one wounded in back-to-back shootings that authorities claimed were related to sideshows.

The first incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the 2400 block of Seamist Drive, near Sandcastle Way in South Natomas. Officer Allison Smith of the Sacramento Police Department confirmed that police discovered a male with at least one gunshot wound.

According to Smith, firefighters pronounced the individual deceased despite their best efforts to save his life.

Less than an hour later, officers were dispatched to Kelton Way and Main Avenue in the Northpointe neighborhood of North Sacramento for another gunfire incident.

Smith said two male victims were discovered by officers at hospitals after being transferred privately. Smith stated that one of the guys was later pronounced deceased, while the other was classified in “stable” condition.

Weekend deaths

Police have no suspect descriptions for each shooting, but Smith stated that while the crimes were unrelated, they were linked to “various sideshow activities from the evening/early morning.”

The incidents culminated a tragic weekend in Sacramento, which began around 1 a.m. Saturday when two males were shot along the J Street corridor near 24th Street. According to authorities, one of the guys died as a result of his injuries, while the other remains hospitalized.

A woman was shot and murdered shortly before 5 p.m. in an apartment on the 3100 block of Occidental Drive in the College/Glen area. Officers and Sacramento Fire Department officials arrived to locate a lady with at least one gunshot wound, who was pronounced deceased on the site.

Officer Gamble, a police spokesperson, said investigators arrested a man at the site while investigating his participation in the incident.

“We do believe this incident to be contained to the residence,” Gamble informed the audience.

A 12-year-old child died shortly after 6 p.m., after being shot while strolling along the 7600 block of 22nd Street near Meadowview Road.

Details were limited, but witnesses told dispatchers they heard shots fired as a darker SUV drove away from the scene, according to audio dispatch calls examined by The Sacramento Bee. Witnesses stated the youngster was strolling down the street when the firing started.

Police said they didn’t have a description of the gunman and were appealing the public for assistance in finding a suspect. A gang-related shooting

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office expects to announce the identities of the five shooting victims in the following days.

A man was also shot multiple times, once in the face, in a gang-related incident just outside the city boundaries, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred just after 7 p.m. Saturday at a Valero gas station on the corner of Fulton and Northrop avenues in Arden Arcade. The male victim was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Amar Gandhi said Sunday that he was expected to survive.
