Father of Two Allegedly Admits to Killing His Children and Burning Their Remains in Indiana Fire Pit, Police Say

Police in Indiana said they discovered bone fragments in a backyard after receiving accusations that two toddlers had been slain and burned in a fire pit.

On September 20, Jasper County police received a tip regarding a man who, according to the tipster, admitted to killing two children and burning their remains in a backyard fire pit of a Wheatfield, Indiana, residence, according to a statement from the county sheriff’s office.

Jason Wallace, Chief Deputy at the Sheriff’s Office, tells PEOPLE that the guy is the father of two children. He has not been arrested in connection with this case.

The father allegedly confessed to associates that he killed two of his “undocumented” children, according to a statement released by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, October 1.

Wallace clarifies with people. The “undocumented” status of the children is unrelated to immigration; they are classified as such since there are no records of them in the state system.

Wallace said the supposedly deceased youngsters were between the ages of 0 and 6, but he couldn’t confirm any further.

Following the tip, authorities initiated an immediate investigation and met the parents of the children at a hotel in nearby Newton County, where the pair was interviewed, Wallace tells PEOPLE.

“They were cooperative but had nothing to share on the topic, they just denied it,” he maintains.

According to the sheriff’s office, authorities seized their cell phones as evidence “and additional information was uncovered.”

According to the statement, authorities approached the parents again after gathering more information, and they continued to deny knowing anything about the occurrence. Police took another alleged illegal child from the couple’s custody.

On Monday, September 30, authorities from numerous law enforcement agencies searched a Wheatfield home where Wallace claims the couple formerly lived. According to the statement, cadaver dogs led police to three different areas on the property where they collected fragmented bone fragments.

Wallace claims the pair is not currently residing in the home and is “moving around.”

The sheriff’s office, Jasper County Coroner’s Office, Indiana State Police, Wheatfield Police Department, and Indiana Department of Homeland Security all performed a search of the property.

The bones are currently being forensically examined to establish if they belong to an infant or an animal.

Anyone with information that they believe may be pertinent to this investigation should contact the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office at (219) 866-7334 and request to speak with an investigator.
