According to statements made by officials on Sunday, the individual who is suspected of driving his vehicle into a throng of people who were waiting to enter a nightclub in Los Angeles, causing injuries to a total of 36 individuals, has a criminal history that includes a conviction for felony battery.
Following the collision that occurred early on Saturday morning in east Hollywood, the driver, who has been identified by the police as Fernando Ramirez, 29, was assaulted by witnesses, and it was later discovered by paramedics that he had been shot. The individual who was identified as the suspect in the shooting was a man with a beard who was wearing a blue Dodgers jacket. The police were still hunting for him.
A felony case of assault with a deadly weapon was anticipated to be brought against Ramirez, who is currently recuperating and hails from San Clemente, California. A comment from him could not be obtained, and it was unknown whether or not he was represented by an attorney.
According to statements made by Police Captain Ben Fernandes on Sunday, Ramirez was given a term in the year 2020 for assaulting a guy standing outside of a Whole Foods grocery shop in the month of June 2019. At the time of the accident that occurred on Saturday, he was on parole; however, it is not known whether the crash was related to the attack that occurred in 2019 or to another case.
At the very least eleven criminal cases, ranging from misdemeanors to crimes, have been brought against Ramirez. He was charged with felony domestic battery in January of 2022, and he entered a plea of not guilty to the charging document. That court case is still pending.
At approximately two in the morning local time, a Nissan Versa impacted a line of individuals, the majority of whom were women, who were waiting to enter the Vermont Hollywood event site. Additionally, the Nissan Versa struck a food vending cart and a valet stand, according to fire Captain Adam VanGerpen, who made the statement on Saturday.
In a statement released on Sunday, the police stated that at least 36 individuals were treated for injuries, including fractures and lacerations, but they did not provide any updates on their conditions.
If Ramirez had been shot before or after the collision, it was not immediately obvious which came first.
