Blazing Heat Incoming: Oklahoma Temps to Soar Past 100°F Starting Tuesday

Beginning on Tuesday, July 22nd, residents of Oklahoma City should prepare themselves for the intensity of the summer heat. A Heat Advisory is in force until seven o’clock in the evening Central Daylight Time (CDT) because it is anticipated that temperatures will rise beyond one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. This extreme heat could result in potentially hazardous conditions, particularly for individuals who do not have access to adequate cooling or hydration.

The National Weather Service forecasts that Oklahoma City will have high temperatures of 96 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday, with heat indices that will exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the afternoon. The heat will get even more intense when the winds from the southwest kick up, reaching gusts of up to twenty miles per hour. This intense heat will continue throughout the week, with weather forecasters predicting temperatures that are comparable to those of Wednesday and Thursday.

It is important for residents to protect themselves from heat-related ailments, especially while they are spending time outside. Drinking a lot of water, wearing lightweight clothing, and avoiding direct sun exposure during the peak afternoon hours are all recommendations made by the National Weather Service (NWS). Take extra precautions to protect vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and animals, as they are more likely to get heat exhaustion.

Furthermore, temperatures will only drop to approximately 76 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday night, which will not provide much reprieve from the heat. Temperatures will continue to be high throughout the rest of the week, with highs hitting 98 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday and Friday. The humidity levels will continue to rise, which will make the warm days feel even more oppressive than they currently are.
