A catastrophic collision that occurred in Poway on Friday afternoon resulted in the deaths of five persons, and the authorities disclosed additional information on Tuesday evening.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has reported that three vehicles were involved in the fatal collision that took place on State Route 67 around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18. The collision took place north of Iron Mountain Drive and east of the city of Poway.
It has been reported by the sheriff’s department that a Chevy Silverado pickup truck was heading north when, for reasons that are still being investigated, the driver crossed into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed.
A white Honda Civic with one person inside was traveling south on State Route 67 when it slammed head-on with the pickup truck. Meanwhile, a Toyota Tacoma with three passengers inside was unable to stop until it collided with the Honda Civic. The sheriff’s department reports that the pickup truck was involved in the collision.
One of the vehicles was thrown down a ravine as a result of the power of the accident, which also caused a small brush fire to start along the highway. Although the fire was immediately extinguished by firemen, the automobiles sustained significant damage.
According to the sheriff’s department, all five individuals who were traveling in the three automobiles were found dead at the scene.
They are evaluating video that they obtained from a passing Tesla that shows the pickup truck colliding with the other vehicles head-on in the opposing lanes of traffic. The investigation into what led the pickup truck to deviate into oncoming traffic is currently underway.
The names of the remaining three fatalities have not yet been made public by the authorities, despite the fact that the family has now identified two of the victims, namely Marcial Rivera, who is 59 years old, and his son, Emmanuel Rivera, who is 32 years old. Additionally, the family has established a GoFundMe account and is arranging a fundraiser for Sunday.
