The heat will be the only focus of the forecast for the following week, so watch out for that!
As of today, the prediction is for high temperatures in the middle of the nineties and peak heat index values in the range of 100 to 105.
From that point on, things are only going to get worse.
The forecast calls for high temperatures in the low 100s beginning on Saturday and continuing through the following Wednesday.
Ever since July of 2016, Columbia has not had five consecutive days with highs in the 100s with temperatures reaching that level.
Since the beginning of records in 1887, this accomplishment has only been accomplished twenty times.
In particular, on Sunday, these highs will be very near to the levels that have been recorded.
On both Saturday and Sunday, temperatures are expected to approach or perhaps surpass record levels.
During this stretch, the peak heat index is predicted to be somewhere between 106 and 112 degrees.
It goes without saying that this extended period of hot weather will have a negative impact on each and every one of us.
The elderly and people who already have health problems will be more vulnerable to illnesses that are caused by intense heat.
Make sure you drink plenty of water, dress in loose, light-colored clothing, and schedule vigorous activity for the early morning and nighttime hours.
Additionally, there will be a restricted number of rain showers during the course of the following few days.
We will eventually have some relief at the end of the following week, when high temperatures will drop to the low 90s and there will be a better chance of precipitation.
