Broward Couple Arrested After Infants Found with Multiple Bone Fractures

BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Two parents from Broward County are facing serious child neglect charges after authorities say their two young children were discovered with multiple traumatic injuries while under their care.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Kourtney Denshel Walton of Pompano Beach and 37-year-old Andrew Wilson of Fort Lauderdale were arrested Wednesday and charged with child neglect with great bodily harm. Both parents are being held on $250,000 bond each at separate county detention facilities.

First Child Found with Multiple Broken Bones

The case dates back to December 19, 2024, when deputies responded to reports of potential child abuse at a home in Broward County. Investigators said a 1-year-old boy named Andrew Wilson, who is the couple’s son, was hospitalized with several unexplained fractures.

A Department of Children and Families (DCF) investigator told deputies they met the child at Broward Health Medical Center, where doctors were forming a safety plan. The boy had been living with his mother, Walton, and his maternal grandmother at the time.

The grandmother told investigators that she had moved into her daughter’s home after the baby was born to help care for him.

The following day, on December 20, deputies returned to the hospital after the boy’s physician noticed new swelling in the child’s leg during a vaccination appointment. A skeletal survey revealed shocking details — fractures to the child’s right collarbone, tibia, forearm, and left femur.

Doctors later determined the injuries were consistent with non-accidental blunt force trauma, adding that the level of harm would have left the boy visibly in pain and unable to move normally.

Parents Delayed Seeking Medical Help

Investigators said Walton and Wilson admitted they first noticed swelling in their son’s leg on December 11, 2024, but waited to seek medical care because they had a doctor’s appointment scheduled the next day.

They also told authorities that the child appeared sore during a family trip but insisted they never caused harm or saw anyone else injure him. Despite their claims, investigators concluded that the parents’ delay and inconsistent explanations pointed to severe neglect.

By January 2, the child was removed from their custody and placed in his grandmother’s care. Between January and September 2025, child welfare investigators reportedly made multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact the couple for follow-up visits.

Second Infant Also Hospitalized with Head Injuries

The investigation deepened in June 2025, when Walton and Wilson welcomed a second baby boy. Authorities said the infant was also removed from their home after being brought to Broward Health Medical Center with signs of distress.

Doctors noted the baby was excessively fussy and had difficulty moving his left arm. Medical scans later revealed the newborn had suffered a traumatic brain injury and a skull fracture, injuries described as highly concerning and consistent with abuse.

Walton told investigators that she had picked up her baby from daycare and noticed he was “agitated and in pain.” Both parents again denied any wrongdoing, claiming they did not harm the infant or allow anyone else to do so.

Parents Taken into Custody

Following months of investigation, both Walton and Wilson were arrested this week. Jail records show Wilson is being held at the Paul Rein Detention Facility, while Walton remains at the North Broward Bureau detention center.

Authorities have not said whether additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues. The Department of Children and Families has confirmed that both children are currently in kinship care with their maternal grandmother, who had previously raised concerns about the children’s safety.

Ongoing Investigation

Medical professionals and detectives described the case as “deeply disturbing,” pointing to repeated injuries that allegedly occurred months apart. Officials said the physical evidence suggests the children endured prolonged abuse and neglect, raising serious questions about the parents’ accountability.

As of Friday, both defendants had not entered pleas, and it remains unclear if they have retained legal representation. The case continues to be reviewed by the Broward County State Attorney’s Office.

Community advocates say the situation highlights the importance of early reporting and intervention in suspected abuse cases. Anyone who suspects a child may be in danger is urged to contact the Florida Department of Children and Families Abuse Hotline at 1-800-962-2873.
