Los Angeles, California — As the federal government shutdown continues to strain household budgets, hundreds of Carl’s Jr. locations across Southern California are stepping up to help local families.
Starting November 1, participating restaurants operated by Akash Management LLC — one of the largest Carl’s Jr. franchise groups with nearly 300 locations across Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Inland Empire — began offering $1 meals to those affected by the shutdown.
$1 meals for families in need
Under this community initiative, qualifying guests can purchase a Kids Hamburger, Small Fry, and Kids Drink for just $1. The offer is designed to help ease financial pressure for families and government employees struggling with missed paychecks.
“We live here. We work here. We raise our families here,” said Amir Siddiqi, franchise owner and CEO of Akash Management LLC.
“When our community is under stress, we feel it too. A warm meal at a fair price can offer a moment of comfort during uncertain times, and we believe that matters.”
How to qualify for the $1 meal
To receive the discounted meal, customers must present one of the following forms of identification:
- A federal government employee ID
- A military ID
- A SNAP or EBT card
No additional purchase or registration is required, and the offer will continue throughout the duration of the government shutdown, while supplies last.
Helping the community through tough times
The move comes as many federal employees across the country face financial uncertainty due to the suspension of government operations. With paychecks delayed and bills piling up, local businesses like Carl’s Jr. are taking action to help bridge the gap.
“In moments like this, being a good neighbor means stepping forward,” Siddiqi said. “If this helps even a little, that is what we are here to do.”

Community-focused initiative gains praise
Residents have praised the initiative on social media, calling it a “simple but powerful gesture” that reflects compassion during difficult times. Many families have expressed gratitude for the low-cost meal option, particularly as the shutdown continues to impact daily life.
Local community advocates have also highlighted the move as a positive example of corporate social responsibility, encouraging other businesses to follow suit in offering assistance.
Ongoing support during the shutdown
The offer is valid only at participating Southern California Carl’s Jr. locations operated by Akash Management. Guests are encouraged to check with their nearest restaurant to confirm participation before visiting.
With the government shutdown showing no immediate signs of resolution, Carl’s Jr.’s $1 meal initiative stands out as a small but meaningful effort to provide comfort to those most affected.
