A 29-year-old woman shared her heartbreak online after discovering that her boyfriend secretly edited her body in a photo — then blocked her from seeing his Instagram Stories.
The woman, who posted her story on Reddit, explained that she and her 31-year-old boyfriend had just celebrated their one-year anniversary, describing the night as “absolutely perfect.”
“He planned a whole night and got me a gift and flowers and was drooling over me all night and couldn’t stop telling me how beautiful I was,” she wrote.
But the next day, during an outing with his family, things took a disturbing turn. After he took a few pictures of her, she noticed later that he had blocked her from viewing his Instagram Stories.
The shocking discovery
“I texted him and said something, and he unblocked me but wouldn’t answer as to why he blocked me,” she explained. When she finally saw the story, she realized the photo he posted of her appeared edited — her hips looked slimmer and her waist smaller.
“The pic I had my hand on my hip so it was really only one side that looked edited, but it was so minimal I asked if he edited it,” she wrote.
Instead of giving a direct answer, her boyfriend deflected, accusing her of being upset over the blocking. Eventually, he claimed that he had blocked her because he thought she’d get “annoyed” about him posting her “too much” — an excuse that didn’t make sense to her.
“He’s not someone who posts often and even if he did, why would I care?” she asked. “I told him he’s turning it on me when I did nothing wrong except call him out.”
After realizing she wasn’t buying his excuse, he eventually texted her to apologize, writing, “My bad, I f—-d up.”
The emotional fallout
The woman revealed that her boyfriend knew about her past eating disorder and body image struggles, and said the situation made her feel physically sick.
“This has just added to my body image issues and I was so anxious last night over it and felt so sick to my stomach I was crying and throwing up,” she shared. “I feel like he doesn’t like my body. The thought of him touching me or looking at me now just makes me sick.”
She ended the post saying she was unsure how to move forward, expressing deep hurt and confusion over his actions.

Online users express outrage
Many Reddit users offered words of support and urged her to end the relationship.
“That’s really upsetting, and you’re not overreacting,” one commenter wrote. “Editing your body and then blocking you from seeing it is shady and hurtful — especially knowing about your body image struggles. You deserve someone who loves you as you are.”
Another added, “You need to break up with this guy as soon as possible and take screenshots of the conversations in case he tries to twist the story.”

The post has since sparked broader conversations about the impact of social media on body image and the emotional harm of digital manipulation in relationships.
