Cat Fatally Shot with Pellet Gun in Plum Neighborhood, Owner Seeks Justice

Plum, PA – A 14-month-old orange tabby cat named Ragnar was tragically killed after being shot with a pellet or BB gun outside his owner’s home, leaving a community shocked and heartbroken.

The cat’s owner, Ronald Amato, said the incident occurred on Sunday, and he believes it was an intentional act of cruelty.

“It was like a nightmare,” Amato said. “I was devastated. I was bawling my eyes out. That cat was the nicest cat you’ll ever meet. He slept with me every night.”

Discovery of the Tragedy

Amato said he learned about the incident after neighborhood kids told him something had happened to Ragnar. When he went outside, he found his cat dead just beyond his backyard fence.

At first, he thought Ragnar had been hit by a car. But after closer inspection, he discovered a small wound that looked like a gunshot mark.

“I felt around on the other side and felt like a pellet or a BB inside of him,” Amato said. “That’s when I knew he was shot.”

Signs of an Intentional Attack

Amato noticed pellet marks on the siding of his garage, suggesting multiple shots were fired. He believes Ragnar may have been standing on the backyard fence when he was struck.

“I’m pretty angry about it,” he said. “It’s kind of disbelief. I can’t believe someone would shoot a cat.”

Remembering Ragnar

Amato described Ragnar as a loving and affectionate pet, known for his constant companionship.

“He cuddled me constantly,” Amato said. “He constantly slept on my chest. He rubbed his face against me. When he was a kitten, he’d wake me up every morning with his wet nose on my face.”

The loss has left not only Amato but also Ragnar’s brother, Rolo, grieving.

“I think I’m going to get a kitten, just so [Rolo] has somebody,” he said.

Police Investigation Underway

Amato contacted local police, who confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. Officers are reviewing security camera footage from nearby homes in hopes of identifying the person responsible.

“I hope we can catch them,” Amato said. “People need to be held accountable.”

Authorities have urged residents in the Plum area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving animals.

Community Response and Concern

The shooting has sparked concern among pet owners in the area, as many have cats that roam freely outdoors. Animal welfare advocates have called for increased awareness and protection for neighborhood pets following this incident.
