On October 4, a Dayton man was charged with shooting and killing a woman who was seated in the back seat of a car with her 4-year-old kid.

Noah M. Corbitt, 23, was charged in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court with two charges of murder, five counts of felonious assault, and one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises. Each charge has a three-year firearm specification, except the discharge of a firearm charge, which has a five-year specification.

Corbitt is accused of firing at a car while driving on U.S. 35 West in Dayton on September 21 after a financial dispute. One of the rounds allegedly struck and killed 26-year-old Jermea Lyle.

Lyle was in the back seat with her 4-year-old daughter at about 7:10 a.m., while her boyfriend was driving an employee of a firm near Dayton International Airport, according to Dayton Police. They were driving south on Interstate 75 and exiting onto U.S. 35 West when Lyle’s boyfriend reported hearing a pop.

“After the gunshot went off, he began to hear his girlfriend screaming that she had been shot,” Dayton police Maj. Brian Johns stated previously.

They drove straight to Miami Valley Hospital, where Lyle was pronounced dead.

According to a press release from the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, Corbitt had an argument about money with the front-seat passenger of the vehicle Lyle was in and followed the vehicle before shooting at it.

Prosecutor Mat Heck stated, “This defendant shot at another vehicle because of a money dispute, killing a completely innocent young mother and leaving a precious 4-year-old girl without her mother.” “This defendant has no regard for the lives or safety of others.”

Corbitt is currently in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1 million bond and is set to be arraigned on Tuesday.
