On a Greyhound Bus From Mobile, a Man Faces Federal Drug Charges

2 min read

Gautier, Mississippi — Jialong Huang was detained and charged with one federal count of possession with intent to distribute dangerous substances after law enforcement agents stopped a Greyhound bus heading from Mobile and discovered cocaine in his suitcase.

According to the complaint, cops stopped a Greyhound bus coming from Mobile at the 55-mile marker on Interstate 10 westbound in Jackson County, Mississippi, for an “equipment violation,” a license plate issue, and following another car too closely.

When the bus was pulled over, the officer asked the driver if he could check for contraband and chat with the passengers. The driver consented, and the police got out his K-9, which started sniffing luggage.

The K-9 smelled out a locked suitcase, which was eventually pried open, revealing 3 kg of cocaine and 12 kg of fentanyl.

Huang told investigators that he was heading from New York to Houston to visit family and had no idea what was in the suitcase.

According to the lawsuit, passengers identified Huang as the owner of the suitcase since he was seen placing it on the bus at the Greyhound station in Mobile and was the last person to board.

Huang admitted to putting the suitcase on the bus, which led to his detention.

He is scheduled to appear in federal court in Gulfport, Mississippi, on October 10.
