Fitchburg, Wisconsin — A 23-year-old Wisconsin man was sentenced to federal prison for having a pistol and ammunition while a convicted criminal.
According to the statement, U.S. District Judge William Conley sentenced Damariyah Muhammad, 23, of Fitchburg, to 45 months in prison for the crime. Following his term, he will be released under supervision for three years.
According to court documents, police attempted to arrest Muhammad on January 8, 2024, on allegations of domestic disorderly conduct and hit and run. When detectives approached Muhammad, he bolted.
Muhammad slipped in the snow and dropped a firearm, which police officials quickly collected and recognized as a loaded Glock 9mm handgun with a 31-round extended magazine.
The Wisconsin State Crime Lab confirmed that Muhammad’s DNA was found on the gun. He is not permitted to lawfully own firearms or ammo due to prior felony convictions.
Judge Conley evaluated Muhammad’s ongoing criminal behavior, which has included the possession of high-capacity guns and aggressive actions.
Judge Conley further stated that Muhammad had opportunities to reflect on his offenses and a variety of resources available to assist him. Nonetheless, he declined and squandered those possibilities.
The charge against Muhammad stemmed from an investigation conducted by the ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force, which is made up of federal agents from the ATF and Task Force Officers (TFOs) from local agencies such as the Dane County and Clark County Sheriff’s Offices, as well as the Fitchburg, Madison, Sun Prairie, and La Crosse Police Departments.
