COURTLAND, Wisconsin – A 21-year-old Wisconsin woman died in a huge incident involving a semi-truck driver from Texas, who was charged with homicide by reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

According to the statement, on Friday, October 4, 2024, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of County Highway A and County Highway G in Courtland.

According to reports, the incident involved a semi-truck and a passenger truck. The person of the passenger truck was unresponsive. Citizens had also stopped at the crash scene, removed the victim, and started CPR.

The 21-year-old woman was evacuated by MedFlight to a local hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries incurred in the incident.

A preliminary investigation found that the semi-truck failed to stop at a stop sign on County Highway G, causing a major collision with the passenger pickup on County Highway A.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was called in to assist with the crash reconstruction and commercial vehicle inspection. This thorough examination of the cars and evidence from the crash site provided a complete picture of the events of the accident.

The driver of the semi-truck cooperated with the investigation. Jibreel Aguirre, 25, of Garland, Texas, was arrested and held at the Columbia County Jail for homicide by negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

“This was a preventable crash that tragically cost a young woman her life,” stated Columbia County Sheriff Captain David Clark. “The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the citizens [who] stopped and took action to try to save the young woman’s life.”
