A 46-year-old woman from Longueuil, Que., is charged with aggravated assault after reportedly throwing boiling water at a 10-year-old boy as he walked by her home.
Stéphanie Borel was detained after the attack on October 2 which left the youngster with severe burns to his head, face, torso, and back.
She was freed the same day on a promise to appear and under terms that included not contacting the child or his family, according to the Service de Police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL).
Borel’s first court appearance is scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Longueuil Courthouse.
On Friday, a publication ban was put on the boy’s identification.
The child told Radio-Canada that he was coming home from school with pals in the city on the South Shore of Montreal when they “took a shortcut” that passes in front of the woman’s house near the intersection of Curé-Poirier Boulevard East and Chambly Road.
His father reported that the youngster arrived home around 4 p.m., shouting, “Dad, someone threw boiling water on me.” “I have been burned!”
Following the attack, Borel allegedly told the boy’s father that she assaulted his son because he had been pounding on her door for three years. The woman lives in a multi-residential structure.
The boy’s father stated that this was impossible because the family had only moved to the neighborhood in January and the boy had only begun attending the school near the woman’s home a month before.
