Charges Dropped Against a Chicago Police Officer Accused of Cutting Tires at the Puerto Rican Fest

CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer accused of slashing vehicle tires while on duty at the Puerto Rican Fest has had his charges dropped.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office informed WGN News that the case against 26-year-old Jacob Gies was dismissed on September 26. They released the following statement regarding the matter:

“After a review of the misdemeanor charges filed by police, we concluded that the evidence was insufficient to meet our burden of proof to move forward with the prosecution of the case.”

Last month, Gies and Deputy Chief Roberto Nieves were arrested on criminal damage to property charges and relieved of their police duties. Charges remain pending against Nieves, who has now been reduced to Captain.
