PORTLAND, Ore.— Police in Cowlitz County say a married couple died on Halloween after “assaulting each other.”

On October 31, just after 6 p.m., someone called 911 to say that there had been a shooting at a home in Longview’s 4700 block of Olympia Way. Two people were found in the kitchen by the deputies. Even though first responders tried to help, both were declared dead at the scene from serious injuries.

The names of the two people were given as Juan Antonio Alvarado Saenz, 38, and Cecilia Robles Ochoa, 39.

The only other person in the house they shared at the time of the event was an 11-year-old child. Police say the child called 911 when they saw both of their parents lying down, with one of them having been shot.

Officials say the child wasn’t around when what seemed to be a fight happened because they were “in a different room, playing video games while using earbuds.”

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that detectives had multiple interviews and learned that Alvarado Saenz and Robles Ochoa were having relationship problems and planned to split up. “There is no proof that a third party was involved in this case.”

Alvarado Saenz died from several stab wounds to the chest, and Robles Ochoa died from a gunshot wound and several knife wounds.

At the scene, police found one gun and one knife. Detectives also found out that the gun was reportedly stolen from the place of work of Alvarado Saenz.

Investigators said they couldn’t figure out who was the “primary aggressor” in the fight that killed two people. Authorities said that the autopsy and investigation at the scene of the crime showed “that both subjects were assaulting each other.”
