NEBRASKA, USA — A guy from Ohio who was suspected of stealing a young child was caught in Nebraska on Saturday after police chased him.
It was reported to the Nebraska State Patrol by the Columbus Division of Police that the person suspected of kidnapping a child may have been on Interstate 80 in Nebraska. The kidnapped child, a 3-year-old, was thought to be in the car.
When troopers found the car and tried to stop it, the suspect, 27-year-old Diego Revilla Gonzalez, refused to stop and started passing other cars on the side.
It is said that Gonzalez went as fast as 100 miles per hour. For the safety of other cars on the road, troopers stopped the chase.
Soon after, Dawson County 911 got a report of the suspicious car.
Gonzalez’s car was found, and stopsticks were used successfully. However, Gonzalez refused to stop, so the police started chasing him again.
Gonzalez drove off the road and at a policeman who was forced to run out of the way to avoid being hit when he got to another place where stop sticks were set up.
Gonzalez kept running until he got to Highway 92. He then drove off the road, through a fence, and into a field, where his car stopped working.
The child was found safe and sound in the car, and the suspect was taken into custody without any further problems.
Gonzalez was caught and charged with fleeing police, willfully driving recklessly, child abuse (no harm done), attempted attack on a police officer, and many traffic violations.
The Custer County Jail is where he is being held. It’s not clear if he will be sent back to Ohio.
