NORWELL – A Pembroke man who used to work as a police officer in Hingham was killed in a motorbike accident on Thursday.

Police say that around 1:30 p.m., Jacob Foss, 28, was riding a Kawasaki motorbike on Pond Street when he crashed into a Toyota Tacoma that was turning left into a business parking lot. After being taken to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, he was declared dead.

Foss’s family said he loved bikes. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a police officer for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority Transit Police before becoming a police officer in Hingham in February 2023. His death notice said that Foss was changing careers and going to New England Tractor Trailer Training School. It looked like he would get his Class A Commercial Driver’s License in March. A master’s degree was what he had before from Bridgewater State University.

Foss’s family wrote in his obituary that he was “kind, generous, active, and a big teddy bear.”

The man who raised Foss, James Foss, lives in Hanson and used to be a K-9 cop for the Hingham police. His mother, Kimberly Kramer, lives in Cohasset, and his fiancée, Maria Petrucci, lives in Pembroke.

Police said the driver of the Toyota would not be charged in connection with the accident. He or she was also taken to South Shore Hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.
