A Man From Venezuela Who Was Wanted in Colorado Was Caught at the Peace Bridge Border Crossing in New York

BUFFANO, N.Y. — A Venezuelan man who was wanted on current felony warrants in Colorado was caught in Buffalo, New York, on Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a news release Thursday.

CBP agents identified the man as Naxer Acevedo Escalona, 32. According to the news release, he was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima when he went in the wrong direction and ended up at the Peace Bridge border crossing at the Port of Buffalo.

A National Crime Information Center (NCIC) report said that the car had been reported stolen to the Chicago Police Department at the main inspection area. Escalona was then taken to the secondary inspection area to be looked at more closely. This is where CBP officers found out that Escalona had open Colorado felony warrants.

CBP agents confirmed that Escalona was wanted for armed robbery and vehicle theft after calling the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. According to the release, CBP agents also confirmed that the car had been reported stolen to the Chicago Police Department.

Escalona was caught and given to the Buffalo Police Department, where he is being held until he can be sent back to his home country.

Area Port Director Gaetano Cordone said, “Because of the great work of our CBP officers, another criminal was taken off the streets.” “This dangerous person is now in jail thanks to our continued work with our State and Local partners.”
