A Dearborn man is charged with felony murder, and police are looking for another suspect in the death of 72-year-old Hussein Murray.

On Sunday, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald accused 37-year-old Carlos Hernandez. McDonald charged Hernandez with two charges of wrongful imprisonment.

“I have authorized the highest charge, which carries a mandatory life sentence without parole for this brutal crime,” McDonald said in a written statement.

Hernandez and another man went to a Rochester Hills home Thursday night, posing as DTE workers investigating a gas leak, according to McDonald. The householders, Murray and his wife, 72, refused to let them in.

According to McDonald, the two guys returned on Friday morning and were granted access to the home. Murray led them to the basement.

According to the county prosecutor, the two guys then came upstairs and asked the 72-year-old woman where the money and jewelry were. Hussein and the other man allegedly bound her with duct tape, searched the house, stole the woman’s phone and watch, and then drove away in a white truck with a DTE sign on the side.

The woman was able to dial 911.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the mother believed Murray had been kidnapped. However, he was discovered dead in the basement following a search of the house. The cause of death remains unknown.

According to the sheriff’s office, Hernandez was apprehended on Saturday in Shreveport, Louisiana, after officials were warned that he was headed toward their location.

Authorities are still looking for the other man.
