Adelita Grijalva Enters Race to Succeed Her Late Father in Congress

Adelita Grijalva announced on Monday that she is running for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District seat, which was left vacant following the passing of her father, Raúl Grijalva.

Raúl Grijalva, who served as a U.S. Congressman for Arizona’s 3rd and 7th districts since 2003, passed away earlier this month after a yearlong battle with lung cancer. He was unable to complete his final term.

In a statement, Adelita Grijalva said she is running for Congress to provide strong leadership for Southern Arizona and to fight for working families while standing up to Donald Trump.

“Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their billionaire allies are harming our nation, undermining schools, attacking fundamental rights, and damaging the environment. But together, we can stop them.

This fight starts now, right here in Southern Arizona,” she stated.

Grijalva highlighted her decades of advocacy, including 20 years on the Tucson Unified School District Governing Board, where she worked to strengthen public education, and her time on the Pima County Board of Supervisors, where she pushed for investments in affordable housing and childcare while protecting the Sonoran Desert.

She pledged to continue creating opportunities for all families to achieve the American Dream, regardless of their background.

Beyond her role as a Pima County Supervisor, Grijalva has spent over 20 years working with the Pima County Teen Court and previously served on the Tucson Unified School District board. She was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2020.

According to her campaign team, she plans to resign from her Board seat, effective Friday, April 4.
