April’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment, worth up to $967, will be sent out to millions of beneficiaries in 17 days.
The next round of SSI payments is scheduled for April 1. According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), SSI payments are provided to individuals with severe disabilities that limit their income.
The payment amount varies based on filing status. Individuals can receive up to $967 per month, couples filing together can get up to $1,450, and essential persons who care for SSI recipients can receive up to $484.
Due to inflation, these amounts have increased by 2.5% from last year.
To qualify for SSI, applicants must be at least partially blind or have a physical or mental condition that severely limits daily activities for at least 12 months or is expected to result in death.
Recipients can use an SSA calculator to estimate their payment amounts.
SSI payments are separate from regular Social Security benefits. Receiving Social Security benefits does not automatically qualify someone for SSI payments, and vice versa.
