Race Day Live (Phoenix, AZ) – An Arizona couple is suing American Airlines, accusing it of racial discrimination.
The pair, a black man and a white woman, were leaving Phoenix for their honeymoon in Miami when the guy was accused of sex trafficking his wife.
This pair had just married, and there’s even a smiling selfie of them on that same trip. They were traveling from Phoenix to Miami for their honeymoon.
However, a passenger allegedly notified flight crews that he believed the guy was sex trafficking his wife; according to the lawsuit, flight workers never questioned the couple before phoning authorities.
“In our society, you are free to love and marry whomever you choose. “Just because they are a different race, doesn’t mean they should be stereotyped,” said Civil Rights Attorney Ben Taylor, who is not involved in the lawsuit.
Attorney Ben Taylor is discussing a case that was filed last week.
It claims that Anthony Williams, a black man, was wrongfully accused of human trafficking his wife, Katsiaryna Shasholka.
The paperwork show that the couple was on their way to a tropical honeymoon.
“Whenever you just assume something it can get you in trouble and here it shows that the Airline attendant just assumed. They assumed something was going on and assumed it was trafficking without even asking a question,” Taylor said.
According to the lawsuit, a passenger informed the flight crew that they suspected human trafficking; however, the crew failed to interrogate the pair or conduct an investigation.
The lawsuit also claims that airline staff who were taking the couple off the plane imprisoned them. The pair claims they were bewildered and embarrassed when police arrested and questioned them.
“They need to do some training to clean up their culture at American Airlines,” Taylor told me.
Taylor, a civil rights attorney, claims that this is just the latest racial discrimination action against the airline.
The business resolved another complaint last month. In that case, eight black men were asked to leave an American flight from Phoenix to New York after a flight attendant complained about their body odor.
“This case is a recurring offender here. You have American Airlines, which has done this previously, and it appears that they are doing it again, and as an attorney, they are absolutely negligent in this,” Taylor stated.
The couple seeks $75,000 in damages.
