Mesa, AZ :- Concerns over Listeria led to the recall of Marketside Broccoli Florets available at Walmart in Arizona.
Broccoli available at Walmart locations across 20 states is being recalled.
Last week, Braga Fresh released a voluntary and precautionary notice regarding 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets that could be tainted with Listeria monocytogenes.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an advisory on Tuesday, highlighting that the pathogen poses a risk of “serious and sometimes fatal infections” particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
The FDA reported that it leads to symptoms such as high fever, intense headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The agency reports that for expectant mothers, the infection may lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.
Braga Fresh has announced that the broccoli in question is beyond its recommended usage date and is no longer available in retail locations. However, they advise consumers who may have stored the product in their freezers to dispose of it.
According to the advisory, the product was exclusively available at Walmart. The product has been made available across various states including:
- Alaska,
- Arkansas,
- Arizona,
- California,
- Colorado,
- Idaho,
- Illinois,
- Indiana,
- Kentucky,
- Louisiana,
- Michigan,
- Montana,
- Nevada,
- Ohio,
- Oklahoma,
- Oregon,
- Texas,
- Utah,
- Washington, and
- Wyoming.
The advisory indicated that there have been no reported illnesses linked to the product at this time.
