Race Day Live , (Phoenix, AZ) – The suspect accused of violently killing a father of five recently told Phoenix police he couldn’t explain why he allegedly murdered the victim in a local parking lot.

Ethan Felix, 35, died after he was attacked outside an apartment complex near 16th Street and Thomas Road on Dec. 27. Miguel Preciado, 38, was recently arrested for allegedly killing the victim.

Court records recently obtained by 12News show Felix and the suspect both lived at the same complex but there apparently had not been any contact between the two of them prior to the violent incident.

Surveillance footage reviewed by police reportedly showed Felix parking his car directly across from the suspect’s vehicle in the complex’s parking lot. Felix and a witness began working on Felix’s car while the suspect walked in and out of his apartment multiple times.

At about 7:30 p.m., the suspect got into his car, reversed the vehicle and pinned Felix up against the front of Felix’s car. The suspect exited his car, picked up an object and began “aggressively” stabbing Felix, records show.

The victim appears to have been stabbed with a screwdriver, records show.

The suspect then got back in his car and left the area.

“Within the observed video, it did not appear the victim nor witness made any contact with the defendant prior to the incident,” court records show.

On Dec. 30, the suspect was found in southern Arizona and taken into custody. Preciado allegedly told police he thought he heard someone “talking negatively” about him but didn’t know why he “reacted” the way that he did.

Preciado allegedly confirmed that he didn’t know Felix prior to the incident and “did not know why he did what he did.”

“The defendant knew what happened was wrong but could not answer specific questions about the incident,” records show.

Felix’s family previously told 12News that they couldn’t think of anyone who would want to hurt Felix.

“This was just so devastating and it happened to someone who was genuine, loving and caring, very intelligent and giving,” the victim’s brother said.
