Big Lots Is Back! 10 New Stores Opening Across Kentucky

Big Lots is making a comeback in Kentucky after filing for bankruptcy in September 2024 and shutting down all its stores nationwide.

The discount retailer, which once operated around 1,400 locations, is reopening about 200 stores across 13 states, including several in Kentucky.

The first Kentucky store to reopen will be in Mount Sterling on April 10, with more locations following in the coming months.

The stores set to reopen include:

  • 400 Campbellsville Bypass, Campbellsville
  • 1714 Perryville Rd. Ste. 400, Danville
  • 200 Sycamore St. Ste. 151, Elizabethtown
  • 294 Village Ln., Hazard
  • 845 S. Main St., London
  • 102 N 12th St., Middlesboro
  • 1342 Indian Mound Dr., Mount Sterling
  • 472 Eastern Bypass, Richmond
  • 345 N. Hwy 27 Ste. 5, Somerset
  • 86 Appalachian Plaza, South Williamson

Variety Wholesalers Inc., the parent company of discount chains like Roses, Maxway, and Super Dollar, has acquired Big Lots and is spearheading its revival.

The company plans to reopen all 200 locations by June.

Big Lots’ return is expected to strengthen Kentucky’s retail sector by creating jobs and providing budget-friendly shopping options for local communities.

With a focus on affordable home goods and everyday essentials, the retailer aims to reestablish itself as a top choice for cost-conscious shoppers.
