A body was found in a nature park in Montreal on October 30. It was that of Kevin Mirshahi, a Bitcoin influencer who was kidnapped.
Before Mirshahi’s body was found in late summer, a woman was caught and charged with murder and four kidnappings that happened in Old Montreal in late June.
The 32-year-old Joanie Lepage was charged with first-degree murder on August 22 in Les Cèdres, a municipality in the Montérégie area of Quebec. Mirshahi was 25 years old.
Mirshahi was taken from a high-end house on de la Commune Street early in the morning on June 21. At the same time, three more people were taken from the building. Police started a major search operation to find them.
Someone found his body in the ÃŽle-de-la-Visitation nature park around 10 a.m. on October 30. It was close to where Gouin Boulevard East and Lille Street meet.
For almost two weeks, the police wouldn’t say anything about the victim’s name, not even a rough guess about their age or gender.
At the time, police said that an investigation would be done to find out who the victim was.
It is thought that the burned-out SUV that Laval, Que., cops found during their search was used to transport the victims.
The other three kidnapped people were found 24 hours later near a bus stop in the west end of Montreal. They were all in good health.
With the victims’ statements, police were able to find a house in Les Cèdres where they thought the murder had happened in the basement.
Lepage showed up at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courts on Thursday. Police had not seen him before.
The arrest order for the woman also says that she is suspected of locking the four victims up against their will.
