Burnett County, Wisconsin – An award has been given to a 12-year-old boy from Wisconsin for his quick thought and bravery during an attack by a bear in early September.

The award was given to Owen Beierman by the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office on October 19, 2024, after an event on September 7. Owen and his dad were out hunting and trying to catch a bear when things took a very bad turn.

Later, after being shot, the bear charged at them and hurt Owen’s dad very badly.

However, the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office says Owen moved quickly and calmly. In spite of all the chaos, he fixed a problem with the gun, aimed, and shot the bear, which saved his father’s life.

They told Owen he was very brave because most people would have froze or panicked in that situation. They said, “Owen is built differently” and praised the young hunter for being cool and taking action.

The police said Owen, who was only 12, showed a lot of poise for his age, with “ice water in his veins and love in his heart.” Police officers train for high-stress scenarios. Finally, the sheriff’s office said that he was a real hero and that he had a bright future ahead of him.
