Race Day Live California is preparing for President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, which includes mass deportations and large-scale raids targeting undocumented immigrants.
Trump’s promise to address illegal immigration and tighten border security was a key part of his 2024 campaign. He vowed to carry out the largest mass deportation program in U.S. history.
After returning to office on January 20, Trump signed executive orders to “seal the border.” Since then, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has started nationwide raids, leading to hundreds of arrests.
In California, immigrant rights groups are stepping up efforts to protect vulnerable communities. They are holding workshops, sharing legal tips on social media, and informing people about their rights.
These groups are helping immigrants prepare in case enforcement officers show up at their homes, schools, or workplaces.
Gina Amato Lough, who leads Public Counsel’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, told Newsweek, “We are better prepared this time to defend immigrant communities from Trump’s anti-immigration agenda.”
Public Counsel is providing “Know Your Rights” training across Los Angeles. They are also working with clients one-on-one to help them avoid becoming targets of raids.
In addition, they are pushing for policies like the Los Angeles Sanctuary Ordinance to protect immigrants from ICE.

Organizations are also creating new resources to help undocumented residents in California. For example, the Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef) has set up a hotline for people in Southern California who are detained by immigration authorities.
Laura Urias, ImmDef’s program director, said in a statement, “Detention separates families and puts people at risk of abuse and even death. California welcomes immigrants who come here for safety or to reunite with family. These new residents help our economy and our communities grow.”
Advocates are working hard to ensure immigrants feel supported and know their rights during these challenging times.
As Trump’s immigration policies take shape, California is standing strong to protect its immigrant communities.
