Race Day Live , (Shasta County, CA) – Twister, the first tornado to hit California in 2025, makes landfall close to Shasta County after a severe storm is seen.

On Friday evening, a powerful thunderstorm produced a rare tornado in the vicinity of Paynes Creek in Tehama County, which is located close to the border with Shasta County, according to information provided by meteorologists.

The National Weather Service has stated that scientists will examine footage and weather information to determine the location in the wilderness where the tornado made its landing. This location is around 8 miles northeast of Dairyville and 10 miles east of Cottonwood.

The tornado began to develop between the hours of 5:18 and 5:21 p.m., and by 5:22 p.m., the weather service had issued a tornado warning for both counties. According to meteorologist Johnnie Powell, who works at the Sacramento branch of the National Weather Service, reports were received by the agency almost instantly from a weather “spotter,” and webcams captured the occurrence as it was happening.

According to the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of Emergency Services, there were no reports of the twister injuring anyone as of 8:45 p.m., nor were there any reports that it caused any damage to homes or businesses.

According to Powell, the North State holds the honorable distinction of being the location where the first tornado of 2025 occurred in California, and potentially throughout the entire country.

In addition, it was the most recent of at least 12 tornadoes that have been observed in Tehama County in the past seventy-six years, as stated by meteorologists.

The following is what we know about the tornado that occurred on Friday, as well as other tornadoes that occurred in the North State.

According to Powell, the twister was also caused by the thunderstorm that delivered hail and heavy rain to the northern Sacramento Valley on Friday evening.

According to the National Center for Atmospheric Research, tornadoes are formed when air that is moving in different directions begin to rise up in a thunderstorm and begin to spin.

Powell reported that the storm began to disperse late on Friday evening, and that the Redding area is expected to experience generally dry conditions this weekend and next week, with sunny skies.
