LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A 13-year-old who was made an honorary Secret Service agent by President Donald Trump during a joint session of Congress is now using his law enforcement skills in Arkansas.
DJ Daniel, who was honored by Trump, has been passionate about helping others since experiencing kindness during Hurricane Harvey in Houston.
“During Hurricane Harvey, we were displaced and became what they called refugees at the time,” said DJ’s father, Theodis Daniel. That experience inspired DJ to want to become a police officer.
“I want to help more people,” DJ said.
Despite facing his challenges, DJ remains committed to helping his community.
In 2018, DJ was diagnosed with anaplastic ependymoma grade 3, a rare form of brain cancer. Doctors initially gave him five months to live, but he’s currently undergoing clinical trials with experimental treatments.
“The doctors are surprised he’s still with us, considering his diagnosis,” Theodis said. “But it’s his spirit and positive attitude that keep him going.”
DJ has been honored by over 900 law enforcement agencies. He even impressed the state Capitol Police while reviewing security footage.
“Wait a minute, that red car looks suspicious,” DJ pointed out while examining the video.
DJ’s upbeat personality and sense of humor continue to bring smiles to those around him.
DJ and his dad hope to spread a message of love and raise awareness for childhood cancer.
