Kohl’s will permanently close 27 stores across 15 states this weekend as part of a major downsizing effort. Two stores in Illinois will be affected:
- Plainfield: 11860 S Route 59
- Spring Hill (West Dundee): 3000 Spring Hill Ring Rd.
These closures are part of a restructuring plan announced in January, which includes executive leadership changes, a 10% cut in the corporate workforce, and the end of Amazon return services at some locations.
All affected stores will close for good on March 29.
Former CEO Tom Kingsbury acknowledged the tough decision, saying, “We always take these decisions very seriously.
As we focus on long-term growth, it’s important to make difficult but necessary changes to support our business, customers, and teams.”
This move highlights the ongoing struggles for brick-and-mortar retailers as they adapt to changing consumer habits and economic challenges.
Kohl’s has not shared plans for the closed locations, leaving uncertainty for employees and local communities.
