EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — State police say a woman from East Hartford was charged with DUI after hitting a tractor-trailer head-on while going the wrong way on I-84.
On top of that, Constance Leggett, 65, was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol, improper parking, driving the wrong way on a split highway, and evading responsibility for property damage.
Around 2 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the area of Exit 48 on westbound I-84 for a report of a crash involving a driver going the wrong way who was trying to get away.
When the troopers got there, they said the wrong-way car was gone. But soon after, they found the car still facing the wrong way near the off-ramp for Exit 54. It was broken because of the crash.
The driver, who was named as Leggett, smelled like alcohol and admitted to having several drinks before driving, according to the police. Police said she also failed a Standardized Field Sobriety Test.
People who were in the crash were not hurt.
On a $5,000 bond, Leggett was freed and will go to Manchester Superior Court on November 8.
