Following a crash at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR driver Erik Jones was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The incident occurred during the NASCAR Cup Series race in Talladega, Alabama.
The crash happened during Stage 3 of the race, with just 33 laps remaining. Many of the leading cars were conserving fuel, while the Toyotas, including Jones’, had just pitted and were aiming to put pressure on those yet to pit.
Unfortunately, as the Toyotas tried to push forward, a bump in turn three caused their bumpers to be misaligned. John Hunter Nemechek’s shove on Bubba Wallace resulted in Wallace colliding with Jones’ No. 42 car, sending him hard into the outside wall.
Jones immediately radioed his team, expressing concern about his condition. He was gasping for air and indicated that he needed assistance. He was taken to the infield care center at the track for initial evaluation and was then released.
However, as a precautionary measure, Jones was subsequently transported to UAB University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, for further evaluation. The NASCAR No. 43 car, driven by Jones, will also undergo additional evaluation at the R&D Center.

The team provided an update, stating that Jones had been evaluated, released from the hospital, and would return home to North Carolina. Despite feeling sore and stretched out from the crash, Jones expressed gratitude for the support and hoped to recover in time for the next race at Dover Speedway.
The incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in professional racing and the importance of safety measures to protect drivers in the event of accidents.
